Little Free Libraries

In 2021, I worked with builder, now Eagle Scout, Loreley Godfrey to create a Little Free Libraries program in Portsmouth. While Loreley designed, built and installed the structures, I secured community partnerships, worked with my colleagues to collect materials, and created a staffing plan to keep the Little Free Libraries stocked.

You can find Portsmouth’s Little Free Libraries in the following locations:

  • Osprey Landing
  • Greenleaf Recreation Center
  • The Pines / Arbor View Apartments
  • Senior Activity Center
  • Community Campus
  • Portsmouth Music and Arts Center
  • Gosling Meadows

Each Little Free Library has a Portsmouth Public Library staff “steward” who visit every two weeks to sort and restock the library.

The library also stewards two additional, indoor collections at:

  • Gather
  • Cross Roads House

Visit the library’s Google Map to see all locations!

A Little Free Library is really more like a book swap – take a book to keep, or leave a book you’re done with! Materials in the Little Free Library are for everyone to share, so enjoy them for as long as you like, or bring them back to the Little Free Library.
